Maroon Bells 4-Pass loop from Crested Butte

3 days, 2 nights, 38.2 miles, 6 passes, ~9k elevation gain, 2 folks from sea-level, and 1 crazy cyclist who hasn’t backpacked in 3 years (and hadn’t tested out his bivy sack prior to this trip).

Clockwise route:

  1. Schofield Pass (due to the snow plug blocking the road to the East Portal TH)

  2. Frigid Air Pass

  3. Camped in Fravert Basin (night #1)

  4. Trail Rider Pass

  5. Camped a mile or so east of Snowmass Lake near the bridge (night #2)

  6. Buckskin Pass

  7. West Maroon Pass

  8. Schofield Pass

More detailed trip report to follow later this week!

Wow, day 3 was long… I knew i felt long as we started at 0645 and didn’t get to my truck until 1954, but the map really shows how long it was.

Actual route tracking from Patrick’s All Trails app… . pretty cool; first time I’ve ever used that kind of tech in the backcountry.

Now, you might be wondering why I kept saying “Live from …. Pass, Welcome to the GCN Show!”. Well I found out they used my footage from the TBP 2019 for their intro to episode 344 as we were arriving into Crested Butte. Let’s just say it was my 15 seconds of fame.
